Shopped my insurance
« on: January 20, 2020, 08:37:59 AM »
We'd been with GEICO for our car and Travelers (through GEICO) for our house insurance for 20 years. I'd occasionally pull a comparison quote here or there, but never got one significantly lower. However... when DS got his driver's licence, our car insurance went up by almost $2k a year (!!). That motivated me to look for alternatives. Through policygenius, I got several quotes. In the end, we signed with Travelers directly for both home and auto, at a total annual savings of $2090.

I'm intrigued.  No phone calls from a bunch of insurance companies?

Curious as well. I'd like to hear more about the process and the level of spam you received (phone or email).

I got a bump in the amount of physical junk mail from insurance companies, but not in junk email. I don't usually answer calls from unfamiliar numbers, so I don't know for sure whether I got more phone calls, but I don't think so. At least not enough to notice.

The process itself was fairly simple. I submitted an online request for quotes and sent them copies of my declarations pages, so they could pull quotes for the same coverage. In fact the quoted coverages had some small differences (e.g. how much the detached garage was covered for), so it's worth checking.
