I have great news that I can't really share it with friends or family. They wouldn't understand.
Last week, my DH and I had a long conversation about cars and our driving habits. I've been work-from-home since COVID hit, but even before then neither of us were big drivers. We also travel together most of the time. This means that our second car really just sat in the garage.
Given the current supply issues, we decided that if we sold a car this was going to be the best time to do it. I didn't want to deal with Craigslist drama, so we went to the dealership Friday night just to see what they'd offer. Turns out, it was a really good offer.
I'm getting a check for $2000 less than what I bought my car for four years ago. Selling the car allows us to do some pretty cool things, including:
- Convert a depreciating asset in an appreciating one. The $ is going straight into the Vanguard account.
- Cut our insurance costs
- Improve the usability of our garage. It's an older house and parking two cars in the garage was really tight.
We can do all of these things without any significant difference in our lifestyle.
If I hadn't discovered this board and been inspired by what others have done, it's quite likely that we would have stayed a two car family and not taken advantage of this opportunity.
Thanks everyone!
