Sending a fax for free online

I don't know if this counts as Badassity or Stupidity on my part because it took me this long to learn about how to 1) send a fax online, 2) do it for free.

Up until now whenever I had to fax something I used to do it at work and if it was an 'emergency' I would go to the UPS store or other office type store.  It would cost something like a dollar a page, but since I did it so infrequently I never put much effort into finding an alternative.

Until, I had to send one in about a week ago and finally put my foot down because, regardless of cost there has to be a way to send a fax on-line using a picture, pdf, ect.

So I found this:

The free version let's you fax 3 pages + cover page, 5 times on any given day, only down side is FaxZero branding is on the cover page.

The almost free version which is $1.99, up to 25 pages + cover, no branding on coverpage, and has priority over free faxes.

The only possible concern for the free fax is that it might be send immediately due to the fact that paid faxes have priority.

Which allows you to send up to 10 pages per fax, with a limit of 2 faxes within a 24 hour period.


Anyone else, know of a cheaper or better alternative?

We use an app called camscanner that will generate PDFs of documents using your phone's camera, then attach them to emails.

The fax that I had to send, was related to the $650 off an Iphone 6 ATT offer where they needed me to fax in the receipt.  I ask the rep if I could email it as a PFD, image, ect, and they said it can only be done via fax.  I've had to do it for the IRS, banks, ect.

Seriously, why do people even use fax machine?  But I guess the productivity increase would be to much for some organizations.

So here we are, me(and i'm sure thousands of other people) spending time out of my life to figure out how to send a document electronically over the wire that needs to be printed out on fax paper, that will probably be scanned and stored digitally anyway.

Unfortunately, the answer is that there are countless entities that refuse to deal with email, and it's everything from old school thinking to medical privacy concerns that keep fax machines humming. USPS just returned some critical tax documents to our state government, claiming that our PO BOX (as in the little brass door with our PO BOX # on it,  inside their damn building) does not exist. Consequently, there will be no 1099s, or pension checks issued until they receive a signed address update via snail mail or fax. In another recent event, an important document we need from a medical specialist could only be faxed or mailed. So, sadly, the pathetic Flintstone era fax is still pretty healthy in some cases.

Utility companies, state bureaucracies, etc.  I'm often sending faxes for patrons at the library, and then we have trouble getting the fax sent, since a busy signal is the most frequent result at those particular recipients.

 Pension funds. Also people who realize they're going to have to send you a 1099 at the very last minute.

At my first job at a big accounting firm, a client emailed me to say that he had faxed some documents to me.

I just sat there, staring at the computer screen, thinking: DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT COMPUTE!

Then I wandered aimlessly around the office, looking for the fax machine. 4 out of 5 people had the same response: "We have a fax machine? Do people still do that?" Finally the fifth told me to look in some closet.

So I go in there, and there's the fax machine, plugged in, but dusty and piled with supplies. My papers are there.

And so are some other papers for someone else - sent 6 months before. No one ever used it, because if we had to send faxes ever, we had an online system for that.

Now that I run my own business, when people ask me if they can fax things to me, I tell them I don't have a fax machine. I don't even have a landline. I don't care enough about faxing to pay for a service to let these people fax me. The best part is that 99% of these people just take a photo of whatever they want to send and text it to me instead. WHY DO YOU HAVE A FAX MACHINE?!

I do have a service that I use for outgoing faxes to the IRS. Because... of course the IRS requires me to fax things to them. I have 3 different special E-filing accounts online with the IRS, but somehow submitting documents to them via any of those secure portals is too much technology.

Thanks, hadn't needed to send a fax in forever but ran into a company last week that wouldn't take an e-mailed pdf.

The service above worked fine and the price was indeed right.

Our home office has some messed up telephone wiring, so when I plug our printer/scanner/fax into it, it either sends blank pages or nothing.  I carry the thing to our kitchen, plug in there and it works fine.  My wife just got a new job and told me she's getting a new fax machine because ours doesn't work.  I explained that if she does, she'll have 2 machines that don't work with messed up wiring, but that she's welcome to carry it to the kitchen.

She works in a medical job, so probably will have to fax something.

As much as people love to laugh at the antiquated technology, fax machines are still used a lot today. I work for a supplier to restaurants around the country. Restaurant managers frequently choose to communicate via fax rather than email. I don't quite understand it - maybe the fax machine is seen as simpler than sitting down in the office and composing an email.

We don't have a fax machine. We use an internet fax service. To send a fax, I send an email to nnn-nnn-nnnn@faxservice.com. Incoming faxes sent to our phone number show up in my email inbox from faxservice.com

Thanks for the info! I spent an entire afternoon trying to find a fax machine locally (I could have driven 15-20 minutes away to a known office place). It was really frustrating, I finally found a pharmacy a mile away that would send send one. I had to either mail copies of forms or fax, those were my only choices trying to get an estimate to buy-back my military time for gov. civilian employment for retirement. Glad to know there are other option, I tried to locate a "from home" option and failed, lol. Again, thanks for the info!
