Saving receipts saved me $1000
« on: February 19, 2016, 11:23:32 AM »
I am usually terrible about saving warranties and receipts for things.  Well last month we sprang a leak in our hot water heater.  We checked the date on the heater and it was one month shy of a warranty expiration.  I dug back in my files and surprisingly enough, there it was.  $1000 saved!  The two days without hot water was a small price to pay.

Nice!  Good thing you held onto that one.   I have a folder for big item purchases.  It's poorly organized, but if I need something down the line, I can usually find it.

Scanning is probably a better way to keep receipts and keep them organized (and backed up to the cloud).  I haven't actually done that, but I should.

NICE!
I scan it all in; keep records of date purchased/installed, model #, ser#, etc
Saved some $$ a few times :)
And makes it a lot easier to buy parts (say a broken dishwasher wheel) when needed.

Well done. Having your papers in order will make life much simpler in many ways.

I have dedicated binders for all my pay advices and bills I receive each year.
This way I can quickly go through both when doing my taxes, like this week.

Excellent!  I'm terrible about that.  I save all the paperwork, but it goes into the black hole of papers and is never seen again.
