Saving $20K by Kickin' Cable to the Curb
« on: July 13, 2013, 08:36:46 AM »
Greetings All,
I loved that 'Stache's article on quick rules of thumb so much that it put me into frenzied calculator mode.  I never fully understood why I liked saving $107 a month so much until I multiplied it by 173.  Anyway, I wrote an article about it:  http://www.millionaireeducator.com/2013/07/how-were-saving-20000-by-kicking-cable.html

It couldn't port my mobile number to Skype when I was looking into it.

You can port to Google Voice and then use that to forward to Skype, but then you have your Skype number showing up as caller ID when you call out, unless you use GV to call out.

You can have Skype show your number on the caller ID, they say they don't guarantee it to work 100% of the time, but so far, it has worked great for me.

I would love to ditch cable entirely but internet alone is $75/mo and internet with basic cable is $50/mo. I would also love to ditch Comcast. Mostly on principle, partially on account of their less-than-stellar customer service.
