Saved my Dad $180 in 30 minutes
« on: April 29, 2015, 07:55:32 PM »
I thought this was fitting after MMM's post today.

Yesterday, I got a call from my dad that he broke down on the way home from work. He was about halfway between our houses. At first, I thought I'd hook up the car trailer and go pick him up. The problem with using the trailer is his van quit running and wouldn't restart. So, we couldn't drive it up the trailer and I don't have a winch.

"Feel like trying to flat tow it 7 miles on a strap during evening rush?"

And that's just what we did. Probably slowed down some people's drive home by a few minutes doing 10MPH under the speed limit, but it worked great. It's a little nerve wracking the first time (not my first time), but the basic principle is the front vehicle accelerates and the towed vehicle brakes/keeps the strap tight.

The bonus is I was able to hit the hardware store on the way back to pick up some necessities that I had been putting off making a special trip.

Trucks aren't Mustachian, but they have their moments.
