I hit a deer during my early morning commute 1 month ago and the body shop had an estimate of $2300 to fix it. My car is 13 years old and has 271,000 miles and still runs great but I didn't want to spend that much to fix it.
So I found an aftermarket hood for $300 and $150 in other parts (plus a borrowed chain and strap from a coworker) and learned how to do the repair myself.
It was a mustachian good feeling of learning how to fix something yourself and save money at the same time.
