average 285 KWH/month
« on: October 16, 2016, 12:32:11 AM »
My landlord is mostly responsible for making our home very energy efficient. We have a hybrid solar water heater, gas stove and gas dryer. We occasionally use the electric switch on the water heater on cloudy days. We do not have A/C.

Landlord's space is 1200 sq. feet. The mother in law suite that we live in is 350 sq. ft. We also have a 2 car garage with laundry facilities and lights.

He showed me the bills from the last 6 months and we average 250 KWH in the summer (8 months) and 350 KWH in the winter (4 months). We have to use the electricity on the water heater a little more in the winter. A 12 month average is around 285 KWH.

That's a fair bit for 350sf, but I guess the water heating would use a bit.

Or is that combined?

I'm pretty bad ass when it comes to energy useage. Here's my recent bills and historic use for a 1000 sf house with 1.5 people (gas and electric) in coastal SoCal. No solar panels or anything especially energy efficient. Electric at 128 kW and gas at 13 therms. Both around $15/month.

Interesting. I'm in a 2000 ft2 Orange County home with 4 people, we average 256 kWh per month (all still in the Tier 1 price band) and pay $45-50. This is hard to reconcile with your #s. SDGE is our provider.

Our average of 285 KWH/month is based on 4 people. Good to see others doing well with conserving electricity.
