So, I know this is an uber small milestone for most here. (In fact, I'm sure many of you have already contributed your $5500 for this year!)

That being said, I finally have over $5500 ($5,578.48, to be exact) in my Roth IRA! I opened it in 2012, but didn't really start contributing to it until around June 2014. Since then I've been throwing in $50 per month plus any unexpected checks that came in (rebates, settlements, etc.).

With about $2k in my 401k, I'm at about $7500 in total retirement savings. I'm obviously way behind most of you but its a start!

Hey, a milestone is a milestone.

Here's to a $10k total balance in the near future!

Hey, a milestone is a milestone.

Here's to a $10k total balance in the near future!

Thanks! I should be there by June or so if I stay on track. I'm trying to celebrate the small wins to keep myself motivated.

I bumped my 401k up to 6.25% in December, and plan to bump it up with every pay raise until I hit the max. Should be about 3-4 more years.

Congrats!  The hardest part is just getting started.  It only gets easier from here once the compounding starts.

P.S. That's a cool username.

You've got a foothold.  Build from there.  We all started pretty much at zero.  Not many trust fund kids here.   Not that I'd mind having one.
