rode my bike to work today!
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:33:32 AM »
that didn't take long....

background - bought bike off CL on Sat.  couple of test rides on weekend, and once after work this week.

everything lined up to do this today - weather (60 this morn, 80 this afternoon, no rain, "shouldn't" be  too much wind)
son surprised us by coming in for the week, and could use access to a car today

so i did it.  took a bit less time than i'd estimated (41 vs 45-50 min).  traffic was light, so crossing the big streets wasn't too bad (jeez, i sound like i'm 5 yrs old...).  took a few mins (as suggested) to cool down and stretch before going in to the office.  baby-wiped down & changed (no showers here).

the cool temps really helped.  was only sweaty under my helmet (as opposed to the other rides).

so, we'll see how i feel tonight/tomorrow.  will plan another for next week.  maybe 2....

now - is there a secret handshake or anything now that i've joined the club?  :)

Congrats! I remember my first ride to work. How far was your ride?

How far was your ride?

8.5 miles, 41.25 mins

i see you're in Indiana - this was basically a ride from the southern edge of Westfield to the Carmel/Zionsville border.

For my old job I would ride from Greenwood to Franklin. About 6.5-7 miles. Now I ride 2.5 miles to the bus stop. We're lucky we live in a flat state - not many hills.

Any thoughts on what you'll do later in the summer? It's not too bad with the mild June we've been having, but I'm worried about July/August when it gets to 100 degrees out.

baby steps for now....
this is supposed to be fun (and money-saving).  if it's too hot, i won't feel i "have" to ride in.  also worried about the rain.

oh, and the wind...

"Oh and the wind" is about perspective. Wind in your hair and to cool you maybe!  I just ride the ride and don't fret about the weather too much.

Today I saw someting that I am sure not one of the thousands and thousands of cars driving on the road saw. It was a pair of Manatees swimming under to pathway bridge I was on (by bicycle). How fortunate was I!

Enjoy!
