“Preliminary study findings support the anecdotal evidence that a ride on a moderate-intensity roller coaster could benefit some patients with small kidney stones.”

...the idea is that if you rode a variety of roller coasters in a short period of time, that would help you pass small stones and lingering sediment before it accumulates into debilitating, costly, obstructive stones.

Thanks for posting this.  It's great to read about people who notice possible correlations and then investigate them.  Fun!

I find the word "sediment" an interesting noun to use with respect to gunk found in kidneys....

Imagination is running a little wild now...

Just posting to say that kidney stones are the worst.  Seriously, they're awful little fuckers.

I can't imagine life before there was decent surgery to remove the big ones... there was an episode of Deadwood where a guy got kidney stones. I think they got it right...

The last time I rode serious roller coasters, it felt like I was driving home drunk and had the worst hangover the next day despite not consuming any drugs or alcohol.  I hate to think how much that rattled around my brain.

I read the article and found it interesting. I think it would work for the sedimentary, sand like stones. My uncle had a very bad one, and I think a roller coaster would have killed him, or at least made him throw up and pass out. He described it as worse than being shot.

Rollercoasters aren't the only thing that can bounce the body around - how about riding a bike?  Or just getting some daily vigorous exercise and movement?  Something jumpy - like jumping jacks and calisthenics.  Just extrapolating the logic of this study, I can imagine many frugal possibilities to clean or maintain sediment free kidneys.  Any kidney stone sufferers willing to be a guinea pig?

I believe the idea is to get the little ones to pass before they grow to OMG AWFUL size.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
