Retirement Job Problems - Don't Work, its not worth it.
« on: June 10, 2015, 02:13:04 PM »
My pseudo retirement job turned into a real job.  If you get the perfect retirement job, don't mess it up by tripling the revenue for your company and having them double your income.  Suddenly you will be working full time instead having the perks of full time without the hours.  The things that made me able to retire early, made me a bad employee.

Whoops.

Oh, and I quit.  I'm done effectively on Friday.

I worry about this.  Once i hit my number I kind of want to work part time or just do occasional contracts.  The problem is that you get sucked in!

Same here. My planned Gap Year ended after just 4 months, but it's not a bad thing.

Congratulations on retirement at 27. I might end up retiring around then myself. I had been thinking that 30 was an okay age, but I'm really not sure I can make it that long -- even 27 might be a stretch.

Unlike most readers on the forum, I don't really have a retirement savings target. Whenever I retire, I plan to have dramatically more assets than I need to safely support my living expenses forever, so that I can fund some expensive activities that I have planned for my retirement. If I end up checking out before saving as much as I would like, it just means that I'll need to find an alternative revenue source for those proposed projects, which is doable.

I am impressed by how so many posters on this forum seem content to work as long as they do.

My rental income pays my bills and I have a real estate license that I use for my own stuff, other investors, and some friends/family.

You might find something similar. It's nice... But it is very hard to date. When a woman asks what you do for a living they want a cookie cutter answer... I'm a real estate investor works, but its not really my job... It is just how I make my money work for me.

Good Luck and 27 probably is too early. But once you have enough FU assets or passive income its hard to put up with the BS of a job you dislike. You will figure out what works for you!

27, you need an elevator pitch for dates. It's all about telling a good story. Try this:

"I'm an entrepreneur." Then when they ask what you actually do, you can explain your model for evaluating real estate deals.

You're a landlord or a property manager.  Nothing too complicated about that, other than maybe you hate the idea of having a job title. ;)

You could claim to be independently wealthy, but I suspect you would have too many of the wrong kind of girl showing up.

CEO of a real estate investment firm.  That would draw some attention!

The problem is the right girl. CEO of a real estate investment firm managing millions in assets gets me laid, but its tough to find substance.

It will happen when it happens. For now... My profession is studying for the bar exam. I lost out on a referral yesterday for a lawsuit that I think would have netted me $2 -4k.... For making two phone calls and connecting some people already in my personal network it would've been easy money. Probably lost out on $15k in the past year. I just have to be careful I don't wind up with a job again.
