Replacement office refrigerator
« on: April 18, 2016, 08:10:28 AM »
Our office refrigerator broke.  Co worker sends e-mail suggesting we pool to buy a new one.  Should only cost $500.  I went to a local online "for sale" section.  Found a working refrigerator for $50.  Collected $4 from each person instead of $40.  It works.

Nice work.  I am always amazed at people who will only look at buying new.

Yes and they wanted ME to fork out $40 also.  :)  $4 is better.

This is interesting to me, as I've never worked for an employer that didn't provide a refrigerator. I find it to be a bit odd that employees had to pool their money together to replace the office fridge. Is it just me?

I've worked for two sorts – the first sort provided a refrigerator in the break room, and the second sort wouldn't allow refrigerators because of the power use, not even in the break room. No middle ground in my experience.

No.  I work for a government entity.  They are not allowed to buy things like that.  No coffee, no water, no "personal" stuff like that.

Same here - govt and our office has had to purchase our own microwaves, coffee makers, etc. If they break everyone ponies up to buy a replacement. I think the office fridge was provided for us - but I don't know what will happen if it breaks.

Craigslist or similar, pass the hat and hope for a coworker with a truck :)
