Repairing clothes
« on: October 22, 2015, 03:30:47 PM »
I'm a new Mustachian, so this might be nothing to you guys but I am delighted!!!

A couple of months ago I had clothes that were for the recycling centre, top with a hole in it or a broken necklace etc.

Yesterday I:

Repaired a necklace
Repaired some jeans
Repaired a top
Repaired my husbands top

My top had an iron burn on the sleeve. I loved it but thought there was no choice but the bin. However, it's not perfect, but I put a stitch through it hiding the hole. It's a "floaty" top so unless you perfectly examined it, you won't notice!

Glued my stones back into my necklace and got my mini leatherman out to fix the brooken loops! Perfect.

Husband's Abercrombie poloshirt wasn't that bad at all, but at the collar there was a hole or two, he is a mustachian work in progress so I am not giving him any excuses and repaired it

Put the belt loop back onto my jeans.

I feel like a badass!!!

Good for you! I LOVE this feeling. "Not perfect" but "you won't notice" is my wheelhouse! My daily-wear skinny jeans have patches on the inside thigh that would be visible if you stared, but people shouldn't be staring at my groin region anyway, right?

My best save so far was my husband's frayed-at-hem khaki pants. Excellent condition otherwise, but he couldn't wear them to work like that. I fixed them so even super-picky Mr. FP can't tell they've been repaired--saved us $60 on new pants, probably for a couple years at least.

I think fixing things rather than replacing them is totally mustachian.

Sounds like you did a really good job!

You'll know you've gone full Mustachian when you find yourself darning socks.  ; )

Thanks guys!!!

Exactly no-one should be looking at your groin... or my arm :)

No socks yet, but I looked at my work tights that are perfect but have a hole at the toe, I'm off to google if you can sew tights...

I would be more inclined to try gluing it in some way so the hole won't spread rather than sewing. My mother taught me to use nail polish to stop a run in one's hose from getting longer--maybe that would work. Good luck!
