29 Years
« on: May 24, 2018, 02:05:03 PM »
You all may think this is nothing but today was the last day of school.  If you are or have ever been a teacher you know that feeling of complete relief and sheer exhaustion.  Looking forward to my summer break and coming back stronger than ever and ready next year to do it all again.  To all the other teachers/school staff out there - WE ROCK!

Wow.  Thank you.  29 years is a long time to do anything, but even more when it is something so exhausting and all-encompassing.  Enjoy your summer.

Please come back and post the day before school starts, haha. I know the rollercoaster as my wife is a middle school teacher. She's so happy come June, then terrified in August. Overall its a pretty good career.

When my wife was a teacher it was always exciting for both of us when summer came. Any summer plans for unwinding?

The truth is that I will spend the next couple of weeks working at the school getting some things ready for next year and I have to move rooms again.  This will be my seventh move in the ten years I've been at this school.  Then I will go to Utah to care for my elderly mother so that my sister gets a break and has a few weeks to spend with her children while they are out of school.  So not really anything too fun but at least I get to spend time on the farm and get out of the heat.

I didn't respect the hell that many teachers face until I married one (also middle school, at a title 1 school).  I strongly believe they are among the most underpaid and disrespected professions.  All I can say is I hope you have a relaxing and encouraging summer!

Title 1 school teacher here, Special Ed. Haven't been on MMM much, I'm enjoying reading and posting. Taking my daughter to Portland, OR later this summer to shadow my P.A. cousin at his clinic; important for her to start shadowing as soon as possible, since she wants to be a P.A.

Also, it gets us out of the hell that is Texas in the summer.

Yesterday was field day at my child's school and I helped with the class. The teacher worked SO HARD through the whole thing - corralling the kids, mediating disputed, comforting upset children (losing musical chairs can be devastating, apparently, to the 6 year old set), cheering them on, etc) as I know she does everyday. I got a chance to tell her how much I appreciate her work, she is truly amazing and puts her heart into the class. She told me she pretty much collapses every Friday night! So thank you to all the teachers and educators out there!
