Was that badass for me really but a score nonetheless.

Specifics -

Deck size 20 by 12.

Had to rip up existing deck, which was easier that I thought it would be given the rot level.

Tools - drill, pry bar, pencil, hammer,  power saw, chisel, tape measure

Cost about 500 in lumber, screws, misc

Hours -  son and I did the work -- probably 16 hours total.   I know that seems like a lot but the rip down was time consuming ripping as we replaced.

This is a project that I think almost anyone with modest experience could accomplish.

I would also encourage those who wish to build their own decks to do so.  It is a very straightforward deal.

Apparently I am to wait till wood cures to 12-13% before cleaning with deck brite and sealing.  So perhaps an August job if we go without rain.

Will need to purchase a water sensor and 5 gallons of product.  So add another $100 to price.

So for $600 a virtually new deck.  Not too shabby really.

And now you're all decked out! I'm sure it will feel great looking at it every day and knowing that you did it yourself.

 great job !

I built my own deck too.

Unless you've enatertainging to impress others or you've got a nice enough house in a nice enough neighborhood that not having a professional deck would actually hamper selling your house; there's no reason no to do it yourself.
