I ran some calculations today, and realized my investment gains this year have totaled more than my living expenses. Pretty cool feeling. The market has been good, so this is temporary of course; it was pretty neat when it hit me though. I can only tell one person this in real life (my best friend/mentor), so I'm venting my experience here as well. Living on a shoestring, and putting the majority of my income in investments is finally starting to pay off.

Nice work!
"semi-FI" is sort-of-kind-of an oxymoron to me, but I think it's something most of us can relate to and even indulge in. I also have a "bare FI" nestegg concept that would imply a relatively austere lifestyle, or one with elevated risk of dying in poverty. It is comforting to know that I've already achieved some sort of FI, even if it's far from what I ultimately want.
