Patience pays off
« on: September 28, 2016, 03:14:15 PM »
Today I celebrate getting something for free that a mere 4 months ago I would have paid $100 to get.  Initially my patience/procrastination led me to lose the opportunity to take a profession-related training.  Since I had no real deadline, I sat back & waited in hopes that the training would become available again at the initial price f $100 instead of $200, which was the best price I could find for a while.  Today, while searching the course availability, I found the equivalent training for free, thanks to a government grant to the organization offering the training.  Woohoo!

That's a good lesson to share!

I wanted to buy my wife a pottery wheel and kiln, but they are pricey!  It took 18 months before I found one on Ebay (didn't know about Craigslist at the time) that was at a good price and close enough to pick up.

Cost me $800, gas for the trip and lunch for my friend who drove his truck.  Got a $1400 wheel, a $2000 kiln and another several hundred dollars worth of fixtures.

We found a house we really liked and wanted to live in while we were looking for a rental property to invest in.  Crazy high price.

It took 2 years, but they finally decided they wanted to sell it.  Got it for over $100,000 less than they wanted at first.

I kind of feel like this is the case for plane flights. If I buy a flight when it's first available (9 months) they are moderately priced. Around the 3-4 month mark, they seem to be the cheapest. However, don't wait less than 2 months because they tend to increase again. This is just my observation.

Holy shit, that's some savings.  2 years to save $100K is not a bad return!
