I just went over 200 miles on my bike!
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:31:20 PM »
I've been riding to work 2-4 days a week for about 6 weeks, this week was 5 days.  I have saved over $100 on the clown car, and lost some weight (not a big person, so it surprised me).  I think it is time to get some road tires for my MTB, since the knobbies require a lot of work.  The bike was free, through some CL trading, so can't complain too much.  Thanks MMM for helping me get over the "hump", now it is a part of my life.  I really feel like a clown if I drive to work.  Funny thing is I've been in the navy almost 18 years, and thought I had earned my parking spot.  Now it sits vacant most days.  I still have a long way to go on my path to mustachianism, but this is a start.

Congratulations (2 1/2 years later)!

So, did you keep it up? I just discovered MMM at the start of 2016, and I immediately pulled my bike out of cold storage in the basement and started riding it everywhere within 4-5 miles. I even got a bike child trailer, in which I've towed home many loads of groceries!

In the past 2 months, I've put 220 miles on the bike, I've hardly used the car at all. My legs feel amazing - now if I could only get my arms and chest to feel like this...

Way to go. I'm at pretty much 200 miles for 2016 too. It's about to go up fast though because the snow and ice are nearly gone up here in Canada. (Near where The Revenant was filmed.)
Keep biking, you're gonna love it for the fitness it gives you without really doing anything extra, and it's just fun. After 30 years of bike commuting I still enjoy it like crazy.
Bike commuters wave and smile, car commuters swear and snarl. Lots of em anyway.

Also, you "get paid" for every ride win the car money you save.

So, Henry and Wesley, how did it go? Have you kept it up? I've been out sick for the past couple of days. Other than that, I've ridden about 90% of the days in 2016 so far!

Oh there was no chance I wasn't gonna keep it up--been doing this over 30 years! Almost done with 2016 and closing in on 5000k (3000 miles) for the year. 150k to go.
Half of that is riding to work during the half year I do that.
Jan and Feb in Alberta can be low-cycling months if it goes below -15c or so, however.
Other half is errands, basic transport and many fun rides in Canada, France, Italy, Ireland. Woohoo!
Semi-retirement is good.

Oops pressed "post" too quickly--how about you Freindly? Still biking?

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
