Title: Paying myself to train for a marathon
Post by: Trudie on July 03, 2014, 03:11:30 PM
I'm training for my first marathon and am entering the dog days of summer where it's hard to come by the mental mojo when pondering those long runs.

So, I decided that from here on out I'm going to pay myself for every training mile I do before the race in October.  I secured a (Free, of course) glass jar from work and am going to drop in the bucks on a weekly basis.  When I'm done I may buy myself my next pair of running shoes (yes, expensive but worth it) and invest the balance with Vanguard.

I sort of feel like a Pavlovian dog, but hey -- whatever works!

Awesome!! Good luck and I look forward to following your progress! I may have to try the same thing, I think I'm going to start training this month for what is technically my first marathon (I did a 50K two years ago though), probably right around the time the weather gets super hot and shitty here, so I will need the motivation as well :)

Best of luck on your training!

I got lucky with a running-related blog that's succeeded to the point where I think of it as a self-sustaining hobby, financially. And the correct-fitting shoes are definitely worth it!
