Paid off last debt (minus mortgage)
« on: January 21, 2020, 02:55:17 PM »
Not super huge for most, but a huge accomplishment for me!

This last year has been a wild ride with finances.

Got a great bump at work and then my boss quit and I got another great bump and his job. Took pretty much all of the extra income and raised my 401k up, maxing out my IRA and was able to just now pay off my last debt being my car payment.  (2013 Rav4 70k miles)

Only debt now is my mortgage. ($148k. Property worth $260k).

No car payment, no CC debt, feels great. My mortgage is 4.25%. Would love to chip that away as well, but the rate is still low enough it seems that the market will just always out pace that.

35 years old. I am actually seeing progress now and its great to know if I stay at this pace, actual retirement is a real possibility. Maybe not a real early retirement, but there will be one at some point!

It IS huge.  Most importantly, you recognized that the great bumps in salary did not mean making huge bumps in spending.  That's the most important thing!

So Congratulations!!  You're on a great path and you will be ready for FI much sooner than most of your peers.  My advice to anyone is to focus on the things you want to do when your time is your own.  I got started on this path late and it's been very difficult for me to consider what I want to do that isn't work related.  so focus on what you WANT to do instead of what you DONT want to do.  Good luck and please join some of the other threads that help keep track of progress.  They're fun and they motivate !

Paying off all your debt (and maxed IRA, upped 401k) is an awesome achievement! Great job!

this is absolutely huge for anyone!  congrats!  Its more of a mental freedom knowing your paycheck isn't owed to consumption aided by the advertisers (not all cases...but most)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
