I grew up in a culturally barren suburb where a car was freedom, and I took that attitude with me into adult life. Two years ago I moved to a city - the kind where you can the public transit out walk everywhere interesting. A year ago, thanks mostly to MMM and these forums, I woke up to how much money I spent to be stuck in traffic twice a day. I sold the car a year ago this week and it's been wonderful. Driving and maintenance were an incredible source of stress and now that's gone. I don't have to pay insurance, deal with flats, worry about finding parking, or any of that nonsense.
