New to me sew machine
« on: February 08, 2014, 10:59:21 PM »
Craigslist works again.
I got a Pfaff 1122 sewing machine for $60.00.  It's got 95% of the bells and stuff that I want and I'm almost positive I can live without the adjustable pressure foot.  Considering a new Pfaff is a LOT more yea.

Now to go mend dd clothes. Again...

Awesome.  Once you get through the mending, def learn how to sew from scratch (or re-work thrift store finds).  You can make easy things like tops, skirts, all knitwear.  Just be careful that your new hobby doesn't wind up costing you...there always seems to be pretty fabric on sale.  Still working through my fabric stash before I'm allowing myself to buy anymore!

Have fun with it and congrats on your excellent find!

Maybe even do a little mending on the side to make a few bucks??

Nice! I got mine for free on Craigslist and while it's not in perfect shape, it works fine for my needs!

Woohoo,

So while we were borrowing this machine, the owner decided she "needed" a new one so we get to keep this one for free.. Ok we'll insist she takes $50.

Its a Singer 8280 complete with zipper foot and a bunch of spare needles.

The industrial machine I was given last year is a Juki (can't remember the model) but it goes for $1000 second hand!!!!!... I've never even run it yet as it looks a little scary...:)

Don't think I'll be making many clothes with that one though..:)

nice find! I've never adjusted my adjustable pressure foot, I'm pretty sure you can live without it.
I got my machine (elna) from a local sewing machine shop, it was a discontinued floor model, I got it at 75% off.
I went back there for my serger too and saved a bundle.
they serviced them before I took the machines home and gave me a few free lessons on the serger as well.
happy sewing!

I'm an avid quilter and sewer. I have a Pfaff Ambition 1.0.

I don't sew garments (except the odd pair of fleece PJs for the family) but I love to sew bags. I buy these amazing patterns online from Dog Under My Desk (http://www.dogundermydesk.com/) and can use the same pattern over and over again. She also has free tutorials. I say "amazing" because they are the most clear, well-described, easiest-to-follow patterns I have ever used.

(honestly, I have no connection to her business, I just love her stuff)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
