Title: New front door for $3
Post by: MBot on August 15, 2017, 02:30:40 PM
My house was built in the late 1920s/early 1930s. There is a small unheated porch at the front, then another door from  the porch to the house.

The current entrance door (visible from the street) is a dinged-up steel door. It doesn't look great. I had hoped to eventually replace it with something era-appropriate.

And guess what popped up on a local auction site? An oak door with a small window on top. I won jt for $3. Delivery by the seller was a whopping $5.

It will need a little finish work and a transition strip, but it's perfect for us! I'm really happy to make the house look nicer from the front, especially as our neighbours have been very gracious about our constant renovations.  A little curb appeal can't hurt!

There is nothing like the thrill of getting a bargain on something you need. And I bet it's not exactly like any of the modern doors you window shopped for. But when you get it up, it will look better than they would have.

Sounds like an old oak door will suit your home perfectly.

How about some before and after pics??

I'll add some pics and resurrect this thread when it's done! Currently starting at a pile of drywall that is taking priority inside, however :)
