New Dishwasher Installed for $85!!
« on: October 31, 2014, 07:48:54 AM »
I have just recently become familiar with this website and forum, but I can already see how satisfying it is to take control of your finances.  I moved in with my fiance a few months back and his dishwasher was on it's way out.  I believe it was more than 20 years old.  I am a fan of the rummage sale pages on Facebook, and found a dishwasher that would match our current appliances (black).  The seller was asking $100.  After asking a few more questions, I fould out that the dishwasher was manufactured less than a year ago, and the seller was only selling it because they bought a new stainless steel fridge and then felt the need to buy a new matching stove and dishwasher (dumb, but lucky for me).  I talked her down to $80!!! My handy fiance installed it himself, only requiring about $5 of parts to do so!!  Score!!  It works beautifully, has lower energy options, and we don't have to re-wash dishes that are still dirty coming out of it!  We had a little proud moment about our cheap new dishwasher...more proud moments to come now that we're focused on paying down our debt and saving!!

Our dishwasher is dying.  It's getting louder each time we run it and leaving some plates less than clean.

Anyone have a dishwasher they love?  How about ones to avoid?  I'll check Consumer's...but thought I would ask here since everyone is always so helpful.

OP...nice work!  I wish I could find one that cheap!

Sort of off topic - I bought a microwave off Kijiji when my old one died.  It is nicer than the old one, and the guy was selling it because he was moving and the appliances in the new place were stainless steel.  His microwave was black.  I now have a black microwave in my mostly white kitchen.  So, those who care a lot about matching can subsidize those of us who don't.  We all win.

Andrea-stache, before you give up on your old one, try cleaning it.  Often there's a filter and sometimes even a debris chopper in the bottom inside that can get gunked up.  Mine gets cloggy with slime and I need to clean it about once a year.  In addition to rinsing out the slime, which covers an optical sensor causing it to run longer, I find all manner of debris in the chopper it can't chop.  Toothpics, olive pits, that sort of thing. Once I found a toothpick wedged in such away that the chopper no longer even turned.

If you google your model of dishwasher you will likely find a video on how to take apart the bottom to clean the filter and other stuff.

We have a KitchenAid that is pretty good, has a number of energy saving settings like no-heat dry, and adjusts washing time according to water opacity, as long as the sensor isn't slimed over.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
