While not particularly bad ass, I consider the fact were I'm even thinking about our trips total cost in this sense to be semi-badass? We have 2 mid-sized kids and a 12 year old car that we try to avoid using for extended trips where we want a little extra room and piece of mind. So we rented a car.
We camped a couple nights, stayed with family and friends a bit. Spent time in DC and NY, hiked, kayaked, swam and in general had a great time. A worthy investment IMO.
Expenses:
Gas: 211
Car rental: 294
Food: 246
Entertainment: 14
Lodging: 20 (campground fee)
Gear: 19
———————————
Total: 804
Length of vaca: 7 days
Distance Traveled: ~1800 miles
Time spent in car: ~30 hours
Time spent on train: 1.25 hrs
As a side note, I've decided to separate 'vacation food' from our monthly food budget so that we can keep that target in site and keep cleaner data going forward.
