Just Biked to the Dentist in 8 Degree F Weather--and got a FREE Iphone 4!

Got all bundled up, rode my bike 3 miles to the dentist in 8 degree weather, rode back to campus--and a friend of mine mentions she wants to give away her old iphone 4--32 gb--because the glass is cracked!

haha nah, the bike I got here works really well on cleaned up roads--and I had a hat! (I could've also worn a face mask, though that one makes me look like a robber...)

Nice.  BTW I've done the ebay screen replacements before (around $25) and it works pretty well.  Can't tell the difference, except maybe the screen doesn't have the same fancy oleophobic coating. 

Edit:  don't get the "glass only" kit though, you need a complete new screen as they are glued together.

I have an old Iphone 3G that is just sitting around with a cracked screen and the entire phone displays only white.  I'd like to replace it, but I don't know what kit I need exactly.  Some of the things I find on Amazon and Ebay seem to just have the touch screen sensors, others just the glass, some say they come with a whole new LCD.  Would you mind posting an example link for those of us lacking in hardware knowledge?

The ebay screens work fine, done several repairs. The install is not too difficult, good instructions on ifixit.com

For your 3g, you can get the lcd screen replacements (around $25 on ebay) but if it is just showing white my concern would be there is something more wrong with it. Does it make noises when you turn it on? Does it show up in itunes?

It still shows up in itunes.  Based on remembering my phone layout, I can even play music.  You can see a clear microfracture up and down the entire screen, so I believe that it's just the screen with issues.

You need the digitizer and display.  There's always the possibility, though remote, that more than just the screen is damaged.

ifixit has instructions, but why pay 3x as much for such an old phone?

I gave away my broken iPhone 4S (dropped in the ocean--motherboard fried) last week to someone who was looking for a dead phone with a good screen to use as a replacement for a screen repair.  They had asked for it on Freecycle.  You might try that.
