I belong to a fairly nice regional health club.  Long time member whose locked in rate (at least appears to be locked in as I've been paying it for years) is $22.50/mo. My new health plan gives me a $20 monthly credit if I get there 12 times. Not always easy...especially during warm weather summer months when exercise outside is more enjoyable...but a nice benefit on the months when I hit the 12x target. Check with your health club and insurance provider to see if the option is available to you.

That's a great deal!

I have Humana and can get points for things like getting 10,000 steps on my Fitbit, going to the gym, donating blood, getting a vision exam, participating in an athletic event, and a bunch of other stuff. Then the points can be used to buy gift cards. The program is Humana Vitality. Between my husband and me, we rack up enough points to buy several hundred dollars of Amazon and Target gift cards. So far this year, we're at $400.

Are these health insurance plans that include gifts/rebates for participating in health/exercise activities the cheapest available plans for the level of cover, that you can then effectively earn additional rebates on? Or could you overall be better off on a cheaper plan without any extra rebates for health/exercise activities?

My health plan was the cheapest "silver" plan we could get on our state's ACA exchange. We needed to go with a "silver" plan to be eligible for the ACA cost reduction credits. As a point of reference, my wife and I are in our low 50's and the premium is $218/mo. I can't remember what the deductable is.

For me, yes. $80/month family HDHP. So I'm making back 50% just in gift cards.

if you get there by bike (so transport cost is = 0) 12X a month and shower there a case could be made that it is actually free (because of the water and soap savings: 12 showers for 2.5 = 0.2 USD cost per shower)

My current work no longer has a health club reimbursement, but at my last job I sometimes had to just go to the gym and buzz in and leave...

(I wasn't  going to pay $80 each month for the 3 months I was recovering from a broken neck! But I wasn't allowed to work out and the gym had no membership hold policy.)

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
