Mustache that power outage notification fee!
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:51:57 AM »
Hi, everyone...

Unbeknownst to me, many moons ago my wife enrolled us in our electric company's "outage notification" program.  For $3 a month, their system automatically notes and reports (to itself?!) any power outage at our house.  Well... bupkus!

In the first place, I'm the kind of control-freak that would always have to phone the outage in any way.  Which is how I found out about us paying the monthly fee.  Had an outage this last snow storm, went to pick up the cell phone, and my wife gave me the "good news."  Yeah, well, you have to know I phoned the danged outage in anyway.

And, of course, the first chance I got, I called the electric company and cancelled the notification service and saved us $36 a year off our living costs.  Yes, it's really small potatoes.  But, on the other hand, I figure the $36 works out to me paying myself over $100/hour if (or when) I have to take 5 minutes to phone in a power outage each of the 3 or 4 times a year this might happen.  If that!.

Cheers!
