Title: Moved 0.75 cubic yards of dirt
Post by: jda85 on April 25, 2016, 12:59:21 PM
A little over a week ago my wife and I moved about 0.75 cubic yards of topsoil and old horse manure for our raised garden bed. We did it with a borrowed pickup, a couple of shovels, and some muscle power. Best of all, it didn't cost anything!
Today (not pictured) we have some bean sprouts coming up, as well as spinach and carrots.

We we're also making a garden 12ft x 4ft and it's amazing how much material it takes to fill the damn thing

Seriously! We just had to buy enough for our garden boxes (built our house last year, so there isn't much to work with...) my husband was like, oh, we can go dig up some from the back of my FIL's field, right? By hand? And then he asked why I was laughing so hard.

8 cubic meters of soil is not just being taken out of the field by hand in one weekend. That's not a workout, it's suicide. (Plus, the cost of gas for the old pickup works out to 50$ more than buying it and paying for delivery, with the number of trips it'd take!!)

Go, jda85! It's a big job!
