kicked some ass in the garden today
« on: July 20, 2013, 02:25:11 PM »
Dug up approx. 80 pounds of potatoes this morning. I'm 25 and got a pretty good workout while i was out there. who says gardening is for little old ladies. I know potatoes are one of the must inexpensive vegetables to buy at the store but there is something to take pride in when you sit down at the dinner table and get to literally enjoy the fruits of your labor. now its time to get the fall crops in the ground soon.

And digging your own potatoes is like digging for buried treasure.  I always enjoy it.

Spending time in the garden is one of the things we both enjoy doing any time we get the chance to. No computers or tv involved. Just good ol manual labor and patience

Oh! Looks like I need to plant some potatoes.  I just picked the first cherry tomato out of my garden today!

Potato digging has to be my #1 favorite garden activity.  We're growing sweet potatoes in straw bales this year.  The vines are taking over my whole yard, so if that is any idication we'll have a good harvest when we break the bales apart!

Mustachian Buddy and I have been growing cucumbers this year.  I had four seedlings left over a few months ago and planted them in the corners of MBs garden.  Three of my plants took off and three of his did as well.  Saturday he shows up at my door with nine cucumbers in hand (and a bunch of jalapeno peppers!).  Today I am canning bread and butter pickles with them, MB gets the first quart.

Nothing quite like making your own food.

MB and I have also been picking gallons of blackberries, I've made 40 8 oz jars of preserves thus far that I give away as gifts.  I may get near 80 before the season is over, I'll be making another 16 jars today.
