Minor Badass? Buy, use, sell at higher price
« on: December 07, 2015, 08:23:25 AM »
So about a year ago I thought I will finally act on my dream to play the guitar, and purchased a 2nd hand electric one off Gumtree (Aussie Craigslist) for $85. 1 year on, very little progress, and so I've decided to quit. Put it up back on Gumtree, and today I walk away $120 richer! Straight to the student loan it goes.

Awesome! It's always nice being paid to play with a new toy. :D

I do this a lot, mostly when I need to rent something but I also do it as a side business.  I just check Craigslist daily till I find what I needed/wanted to rent at a good price then sell it for profit when I'm done.  I'm getting paid to work on my projects is how I look at it.  Although it can be annoying if I can't find it on CL in a reasonable amount of time.  Most people think I'm crazy or just cheap, I think it's badass/brilliant.

Pretty badass! I think buy, use, and sell again at same price is pretty sweet. I think Jacob at ERE mentions doing things like this. I can see that the price for used baby items for example is pretty steady. I wish I had realized this earlier when buying our baby items. I'm reselling now but at a loss, except for the items I did buy used.

I already feel it's a victory when I manage to re-sell something at more than 50% of purchase value, so making more than 100% feels insane to me. Sucks to be the guy who bought it from you, though :)
