Be careful how you register your home equipment warranties!

Not a huge tip, but a valuable tip to know none the less.

If you find yourself replacing an HVAC system, or a water heater, or anything of that nature? When warranty registration is done, be sure to have the name registered on the equipment match county assessor records for the property the equipment is installed to. It is apparently getting to a point that a lot of companies are trying to find technicalities and loopholes to deny warranty work, and one of the ways they're doing it is no longer tying the warranty to the property, but the owner who paid to install it. This means warranties rarely ever transfer with the sale of the home, anymore. However, this also means that if you don't register the equipment warranty under the same name as what's listed in county tax records, they could still potentially flag and deny the claim despite your still living there and being the person who paid to get the work done in the first place.

So, double check warranty registration information with the manufacturer, especially if the installer registers the equipment for you.
