So we are making a price book here, trying to cut costs as much as possible on every single item we purchase.
Regarding coffee alone, we were buying at least a couple jars of Taster's Choice instant coffee per month for $1.14/oz. Last night we switched to Great Value instant coffee at $0.49/oz -- quite a savings and it tastes just as good to us! $10 compounded monthly for 25 years in index fund amounts to quite a bit of retirement money, for coffee which tastes the same!
So I had this ugly plastic GV jar that is just quite an eye sore to look at and handle. I know this was totally unnecessary but I like to spice things up with things I already own with a little crafting.
So I took the old Taster's Choice glass jar and removed the label, by soaking it in water. I then found an antique coffee label (I'm into antiques, victorian, art deco etc) on DuckDuckGo images. I printed it out on color laser printer (using non-oem color toner of course at 1/7th the cost), and it cost me about 10 cents to print I'd say including the premium HP paper. I then cut out a small square of peel and stick Avery laminate and applied it. I paper cut out the label, rounded the edges by hand with scissors then sprayed the back with 3M adhesive. Altogether I'd say the label cost less than 25 cents to make and it's made with materials which should make it last for at least a good year or two.. I can then replace later for 25 cents.
Here is a photo comparing the two. So now I just fill up this custom labeled jar with the GV coffee and it makes an instant conversation piece, lol. I keep the GV jar hidden in the pantry :)
