Last day at work
« on: February 12, 2016, 01:02:18 PM »
So this is it the last day of work or at least working for the man. FIRE declared and fait accompli. I woke up at 2am with my head spinning and was wishing it was light out so I could get started with the day. I've been asked if I hit the lottery to be able to retire at 48 but looking back it could have been much sooner had I followed the mustachian path sooner.

The not so badassity includes:
-Not maxing the 401k contributions sooner
-A couple sail boats (love 'em but never own them kids)
-Luxury cars/leases (true happiness is never found parked in the driveway or the dealer lot)
-Not investing in Vanguard funds sooner
-Eating out too much

But all in all no regrets and extremely grateful for finding MMM blog and other when I did. Stay thirsty (for FI) my friends. Time does go by pretty quickly.

Congrats!

Care to share any details like location, annual expenses, mortgage, stache, estimated SWR?

Awesome!  Thanks for sharing your news and missteps along the way.

I'll have a beer tonight in your honor.  Anybody else retiring today?  I might want to have 2 or 3.

Thanks guys.

PhysicianOnFIRE - I'm sure there a few more retiring today. Cheers!

FIREandMONEY - Location is leaving CA ASAP and becoming full-time RVers in the West mainly. Sold our house in 2014 and just month to month. NW $1.5 Mil +/- split between retire and taxable accounts with no debts. I want to be below 4% and plan to follow a variable withdrawal.

@livingthedream - Yes, you are living the dream.  I figured as much, so I had that second and third beer.  #HomebrewOnTap

Sincerest congrats! You had my knees knocking and pulse racing with I imagined I was you for a moment. I guess it is like being a virgin- you never really know until you get there. Can't wait to join you one day!

Well done, and well said.

10.5 months and I'll be joining the ranks of the FIRED. It can't come soon enough.

Congratulations - I feel the same about this blog and forum - they are the lenses that helped me see the light. RVing sounds fun. Being free is better than you can even imagine (she said with 7 months under her belt).

For the sailboats it doesn't make a lot of sense unless you are living on them and can get rid of your rent or mortgage.  I joined a community sailing organization and that is a great way to get out on the water inexpensively and not have to deal with the maintenance.
