Just got a 33% raise!
« on: February 07, 2014, 12:19:16 PM »
I just got a promotion after busting my ass for 6 months, and the raise was a lot larger than my director originally told me it would be.  She told me that she went to bat for me with HR because she said I deserved the extra amount.  A 20% raise was the original number floated to me, but it ended up being a 33% raise!

After I finish paying off debt with the extra money, I'm going to start socking it away and pretend it never happened.

Thanks everyone!  It's by far the biggest raise I've ever gotten and I'm REALLY glad I got it post-MMM!  Otherwise I know I would have just pissed it away.

I'm in the same situation--got the biggest raise of my life just about a week after stumbling onto MMM. Very good timing. Here's to crushing our respective debts!

Whoo hoo!!! Not only are you awesome, you have an awesome boss -- love stories about people who go to bat for their team members.

Thank you!  And I totally agree about my boss being awesome!  Our HR is notoriously difficult, and raises aren't supposed to be more than 25% for internal promotions, so I'm sure she fought hard for me.  Makes me super happy to work where I do!

Congrats!  How did you do it?

Thank you!  I just worked my ass off and interviewed for and got an internal promotion!  My director went to bat for me to get me a higher than usual raise for the promotion.  Since I've been at my current job I've gotten a masters in a related field and a professional certification, which I think also helped.  And overall I work really hard and take on most of the more complex work which I think helped me tremendously.  Plus I let it "slip" to my director that a former coworker was trying to recruit me, which I think also helped motivate her decision to get me a bigger raise than usual.  ;)
