We just relocated from Kauai, HI to Pueblo, CO about 5 weeks ago. So far, so good.

My son is 2 and doesn't start school for another 3 years. However, I just found out that to save money on staffing and energy, the schools are closed on Fridays.

This works perfect with my schedule because I teach at the local community college and I do not teach on Fridays. I have a 3-day weekend, but I never thought my son would also have a 3-day weekend.

That's awesome. Do they have shorter summer breaks? That is so much more conducive to learning.

I'm torn about this.  On one hand, I think that a four day week is awesome for the kiddos.  On the other hand, I can see this as a real burden to parents who don't have the same schedule and are now having to pay for extra childcare.

More specifically - how do you find childcare that isn't a high school aged student? Finding part-time daycare is almost impossible where I live.

Would a middle school aged student be competent enough?  You might be able to get lower rates with them.

The program that we send our son to after school is open on the handful of in-service days that the local school district has.  But it nearly doubles the weekly cost for him to go that one full day ($35/week for after-school only and $65/week for 1 full-day and 4 days of after-school only).

The one that I’m familiar with extended the school day to make up the time.
