I finished grad school in 2006 and started biking to work at the end of that year. Just realized it has now been a decade of human powered commuting!
What a boost to my mental, physical, and financial health!
I averaged about 3,000 miles per year, fell off only three times (no injuries), and was hit once on the bum by a rear-view mirror (in what was supposed to be a "protected" bike lane!).
Early on, I lived in a big city, and saved hundreds every month by living in a nice old apartment building that was too far to walk to the subway. Now I live in a more expensive neighborhood, but the bike commute is as important as ever, especially on those days where I work until late at night and it is my only physical activity for the day.
Cheers and happy new year to all the biking commuters!
