Job Hunting Badassity- Position of Strength
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:26:14 AM »
Using the philosophy mind set from the Position of Strength, sailed through an interview for a sales position via TruGreen, aka "the Power of No".
Granted current position could pay more, but having reliable 1st shift hours via an office locale is a strong position I don't want to give up. Also then had the gonads to find out exactly what position offered for pay. Let's just say glassdoor's posting of "100670K base pay" was a load of malarkey. Wouldn't have made much more than I currently do, and I wouldn't have had nearly as nice a working environment.

Ah well, no fortunes lost; perhaps Sentry insurance can afford to be more generous. One would hope so, given I was granted back door access for the application process. :D Here's hoping my badassity shines through!!

The position of strength with regards to jobs is truly liberating.  I used to be "oh so thankful" to my megacorp for allowing me to be a wage slave.  It was an ok job I guess, one that many would be very thankful for, but I wasnt treated very well and finally got up the courage to apply elsewhere.  I breezed through interviews at two new employers and ultimately took a job with a 50% pay raise and a new personal attitude about work...basically that I was going to use megacorp to achieve my goals vs. them using me.  I've got so much confidence now (plus some FU money) and if I ever become unhappy with my current situation, I know I can go elsewhere.  It's really been a complete shift in my attitude about work!

Kudos to you for not settling!

yup this little pr job (hobby) is the best I have ever been paid.

Reason: When they tried to offer me 60% of what I was asking I simply told them "I will repeat what I am asking for one more time.. After that I walk.. make your choice!"

They offered me $1 an hour than I was asking for.. Oh and time and a half after 40 hours.. Hot damn!

Of course I would never have done that unless I was FI....:)
