I now have an Emergency Fund.

Yesterday I acquired about $3K in extra money via a relative sharing a bit of an inheritance with me, and immediately put it to good use.  $1200 went right into savings, fulfilling my goal of having at least $1K in emergency money.

Another thousand and a bit paid off my house insurance, which is due next month, in full.  Normally I do 3 payments and get dinged for $5 per installment, and also have to worry about cash flow in August and November when the other payments are due.  Now I'm $10 to the good and don't have to worry about it till next spring.

(Oh, and I've started a $20 bill collection in a drawer, guarded by a small green and purple dragon named Lakshmi.)

Good for you. Having some cash really helps to avoid being nickeled and dimed by all these installment fees, interest payments, etc., so in the long run it'll save you quite a bit of money.

Well, my mortgage is almost gone (9 weeks to go!) and then I'm going to put the equivalent of half the mortgage payments into the emergency fund and build it to $2000.  I have some upcoming travel to a family wedding in September, along with a gift to give, so the other half of the payments will go to that.  Once I'm back from the trip I'm going to take some of the extra money and invest it, and continue to increase the savings.

Wow!  Only 9 weeks on the mortgage is amazing!!!  I've got something more than 28 years.
