In the final stretch thanks to MMM!
« on: April 29, 2014, 05:52:39 AM »
Just writing to celebrate my “badassity” in getting my website off the ground, which has taken us one step closer to financial independence thanks to MMM.

While following MMM, almost from the beginning, he’s played a big role in inspiring me to get to this point, not only motivating us to see how we could accelerate our mortgage payments, but to set aside more in our “Financial Freedom” account. I think he pushed us over the edge in making what was only a dream into reality. Let alone, these big things, he even motivated me to get my first smart phone when he came out with the info on Airvoice Wireless because the only thing holding me back was my frugality in not wanting to pay the extra. Thanks to that info, I was able to enter the 21st. century while keeping my costs down to $12 every 3 months J

This new website is taking us into the final stretch. When the lease at my husband’s business came up for renewal, we decided to start the leap. He opted not to renew and will officially start ER on May 15th., so we made the final payment on our mortgage and are now officially debt free! The next step is for me to join him. Thanks to MMM’s instructions on how to start a website, earlier this year I clicked that Blue Host link on his website and took the plunge. Even though the technical issues have been much harder than I could have imagined, it’s finally getting off the ground.

MMM’s analysis of funding needs in ER has really given us confidence in knowing our savings would sustain us, as our portfolio meets his 4% rule and we’ve got our spending in line. It made so much more sense than all the other advice out there. My only concern now is health insurance costs, which is difficult to get hard figures on due to the fact that my husband is a lifelong diabetic. It’s my only hurdle at this point. Before I join him, I’d just like to know we will have a little something extra to rely on, and the hope is that this new website will bring us that “little extra.” Since it’s a hobby I love, I’m looking forward to being able to focus more attention on it when I leave work.

Despite being an avid follower of MMM, I have to say, I have not spent much time on the forum until now, but it is giving me so much insight into what readers are looking for. Here’s a big Thank You! to MMM and all his followers for getting us to this point. You’ve all been a huge inspiration.

congratulations to both of you. Healthcare is a tricky thing right now, especially with the changes in the healthcare laws.  Maybe wait a year or so until it all settles down, or ask some other folks in your situation (self paying health insurance with a diabetic in the family) what they use?

Very inspiring! keep it up! whats the website?

Thank you! There's an earth under the money bag (Author's Name) that will show the link and take you there if you click on it. The MMM editor told me they don't want people to link to websites in their posts, but I do think they should make it more obvious for people to find.

By the way, I changed my birth date on my profile. Not sure how it got entered wrong. I wish I was in this position 10 years ago :) but I'm actually 50.

I just checked out your blog. Very practical tips. And, the post on saving on prescriptions netted me a coupon that will save me $35/mo on one of my prescriptions. So thanks!

This is something I will try to keep an eye on as I approach my own ER...

But I am pretty sure that I would rather deal with the "emotional problems" caused by ER than those caused by my meat-grinder job. :)

And great blog Savvy....

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
