I Passed The Navy Seals Fitness Test
« on: June 17, 2025, 11:00:34 AM »
I'm 45 years old and just passed this... the minimum standards are not super human but something I'm still feeling good about. The competitive standars are really tough though.

Here were my marks:

Run 10 minutes 18 seconds (mile and a half)
10 minute break
Pull ups 14 (outward facing grip)
2 minute break
Push ups 75 (max you can do in 2 minutes, can't lay on the ground and take a break)
2 minute break
Sit ups 55 (max you can do in 2 minutes, can't lay on the ground and take a break)
2 minute break
Swim 12 minutes 15 seconds (have to use the side stroke, swim 500 yards)

This is actually out of order and the swim should go first - but I have to go to work after I train this on Saturdays so I do the run outside before the gym opens and time it so I finish right when the gym opens. The swim is my worst of all of these so it can be harder at the end I imagine. Sometime I'll train it with the run last when I quit my extra job.

Regardless I'm still happy with the results. I've passed two weeks in a row and I'm planning on doing this every Saturday. Out of everything the run is the hardest I think - even though that is probably one of my stronger areas. To hit the minimum standard you need to run a 7 minute a mile pace or faster. That is pretty quick. On Tuesdays I've been training just the run and got 9 minutes 50 seconds for a mile and a half... but that's not first thing in the morning on Saturday when I'm slower for some reason.

I'd like to see where I can get if I keep training this. I think my swim is super slow - the side stroke is a slow stroke but it looks like from the competitive standard there is a lot of ways to improve and drop my time down. Truthfully I've never swam competititvely in any form and hadn't been in a pool in years. So I think this time is a pretty "average joe" time for someone who is decently fit.

The best part is that I started training this while working a main job and 2 other jobs and around 65-70 hours a week. I am not making excuses! I want to be fit when I reach FI and go climb a bunch of mountains and do some cool stuff with my giant 'stache!

Thanks! I did it all without having to buy an expensive gym membership, expensive shoes, a personal trainer, smart watch, subscription to some fitness app, etc.

All done with a plain old YMCA membership and some generic Walmart running shoes.

Wow that's awesome.  Running has always been tough for me - no matter how much I ran when I was young, I never got fast (11-12 min 1.5mi).  That's going to pay dividends in the future!

Thanks... now is the time to get my finances and health in order to really enjoy life in my 50s.

Crazy to think I'll be 50 in 4 years but hey everyone probably thinks that when they turn 50.

That is amazing! Definitely impressed by his speed.

I want to be like that when I'm older and just stay super active.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
