I have mended a thing (twice!)
« on: December 18, 2015, 08:28:53 AM »
I sold my Audi for profit a few weeks ago and had been looking for a new winter beater and stuff hauler.
Enter the 2003 4runner with issues. Price was right at well below market value, and nothing wrong with it made it not drive.
I saved $400 in labor by installing my own front CV axles and ball joints.
I cleaned and re-installed the oxygen sensor with a spacer to clear the CEL.
purchased a $4 ebay relay to fix the fog lights and one for the a/c.
4 brand new winter tires will come from DiscountTireDirect for $450. Big bonus when it comes to resale.
I spent $4 to replace the gas door spring, allowing me to fill up. This comes in handy.
The rear wiper and defroster work now that I performed the service reset.
Some old wiper refill blades went on, and the windshield was scrubbed.

It is now winter ready, and my expenditures are about $2k less than market value. When winter is over, I'll put it up for about $1250-1500 more than paid for a quick sale.

Yesterday morning the renters upstairs complained of a burning smell coming from the fridge. I told them to unplug it and I would be there to see about it in the afternoon. I had gone to storage and picked up a temporary mini-fridge, expecting that the old one they had was indeed cooked. After removing the inspection panel, The only thing cooked was the mat of cat hair around the cooling fan motor. We cleaned it all out, removed the motor, soaked in electrical cleaner, re-lubed the bushing and reinstalled. Runs quieter than before. Renters are on notice that cleaning cat hair out of the fridge is their responsibility. Saved $300-400 on appliance service or used appliance!
