I have a net worth!
« on: October 17, 2015, 08:40:53 AM »
I realized the other day that if I count my 401k, employee stock and vanguard stock, I actually have more $ than I owe on my mortgage! That was cool to realize.

That is a great feeling!  I reached that point about a year before I realized it.  A guy at work turned me on to Personal Capital, it was an eye opener.  Since I've started tracking it, I have been amazed at how fast it grows compared to not paying attention.

That's a nice feeling, but your house has value too.  You can't just count the liability and ignore the asset if you're doing a net worth calculation.  It seems like from what you have written your net worth is higher than you think it is.

Personal Capital is my favorite all-in-one-place tool.  MMM turned me on to it and I've spread the word to some likeminded friends and we agree it's a great resource.  I know it's investment-focused, but my one complaint is that it doesn't count the value of your house, if you have one.  Good choice though!

Actually, it does.  It gets the value from zillow.  My mortgage company site is a pain to log into from PC, so I put in the mortgage balance manually.

Just found it.  Thanks so much for the tip!
