$4 month cell service
« on: January 07, 2019, 09:43:21 AM »
I bought FreedomPop - 12-Month Prepaid Plan LTE 3-in-1 SIM Card Kit (att) at best buy for $50 that gives you about 1GB of data per month, and use it for data only. I also use google voice app and hangouts app for SMS, MMS, VOIP, and google voice phone number.  And BAM, $4 month cell service.

Can that be used as a hot spot?

Does it receive texts over wifi?
For example - if a website asks me to authorize by providing a code sent to my cell?

Yes it does, both apps use cellular data or Wi-Fi, and most people are on their home Wi-Fi so you actually don't need that much cellular data, you can also get the watchdog pro app from the Google play store and you can monitor in real time how much data you consume per month

I recently started using red pocket $5/month ($60/yr) from eBay. It can be used on any of the four major networks depending on which you like best (it comes with a different sim for each carrier). It only has 500mb/mo and 100min and 100texts per month with no rollover but that is more than enough for me.

It’s also good as a cheap sim for my elderly mom who doesn’t use much and I only have to renew once per year.

Hey CCCA, I used to use that plan with ATT for I kept having service stopping, red pocket told me it's on there end, it looked like just to affect ATT sims.

I am a little afraid to data only. I absolutely rely on cell phone service for work.

That said, I am thinking about switching from T-Mobile to Republic Wireless soon.

Republic wireless is really neat idea, there doing something similar to what I'm doing, with a wifi first mentality. Once I learned more about VOIP, I found I could just roll my own. You should check out red pocket t-mobile sim at ebay or us mobile. Republic wireless charges a monthly junk fee and taxes, us mobile charges taxes, and red pocket is tax/fee free.
