In our house, we find it easy to have simple rules that help manage our luxuries and hedonic lifestyles. For instance, I generally only drink one can of store-brand seltzer per day and look forward to it as a treat. I know, living the high life.

Please observe the attached text from my likewise frugal SO, who approved my celebratory second seltzer.

In all seriousness, I am proud that I have finally paid off my $21k of student loan debt, most of which was due to my Masters program. I'm on a teacher's salary, so I am not rolling in money, and I am sure I could have done it faster than I did. But it's done now. In total, it took about two years of intense effort to pay off.

Now: to research IRAs :)

Thanks all.

Thanks especially for this... it has been a big deal for me to realize, over the past couple years, how fortunate I am that she is on the same page. We are not married (yet...?) but have been together five years. It's easy to take for granted. I always realize my good fortune when I am reading about other couples' inability to discuss money or inability to agree upon financial goals.

In celebration of you paying off your student loans, I'm walking over to our office refrigerator, taking a Schweppes black cherry seltzer out, left over from a big meeting here 3 weeks ago....and considering it part of my own personal share of company profit sharing.  Ahhhhh, sparkly.

Beware, it'll make you burp!

Congrats on the payoff!  How many green soldiers will be liberated per month?

I hope so! Plus coming to MMM helps me stave off any desire to purchase a car.

Congrats on the payoff!  How many green soldiers will be liberated per month?

The minimum was $227 per month, and I was normally to pay 3-5x that amount.
