Paid off my mortgage!
« on: April 26, 2017, 03:43:58 PM »
We paid off our mortgage last week! Although we had  a pretty low interest rate and it was an emotional decision, it feels AWESOME to own a roof over our heads!
We are almost debt free now - less than 10K on a car loan at 0.9% and that's it...

Congrats!

Now turn that mortgage payment into investing and you'll be financially set in no time!

Congratulations!! Such a huge achievement.  I'm contemplating paying off the mortgage as well.  I'm 32 yrs old and would like to know what step you took to accomplish this?

Thank you.

Ohhh the money you would have saved had you not paid off your mortgage ahead of time.  Tens of thousands of dollars in wealth were lost, adding months or even years to your eventual retirement date.

I'm always here to let you know how much money you threw away.  All I need to know is the mortgage interest rate, the balance before and after, and the time it took to pay it down.

Assuming a 30-yr mortgage rate @ 4%, had you instead paid the minimum and invested everything else in the S&P during that 3.5-yr span you would now be

$63,372 richer
