Badass Pellet Smoker

Being from KC smoked meat is in your blood here.  But if you've ever gone to a BBQ place you know how much that will run ya.  I had a traditional smoker for awhile, but its a hassle you have to constantly monitor temp add wood ... etc.  So i saw some of these pellet smokers.  Oh that looks nice.  A smoker that uses real hardwood pellets with its own temperature controller.  NICE.  set it and forget it ... haha.  But no really thats what they do.  Then you look up the price on these bad boys.  You arent getting a new one for under 700 bucks.  Not my cup of tea.  Started looking for used ones. Couldnt find any really.  Then i came across the MES 30/40.  The masterbuilt electric smoker.  What a great smoker this is.  BUT you have to add wood chips every 2 hours and have you seen how much they sell wood chips for.  INSANE.

But if you take this little refrigerator sized smoker and put an AMNPS in it you will have your self a pellet smoker that is set it and forget it for around 200 bucks.  If you go brand new.  You can find the MES 30 or 40 used on CL alot of the time.

Pellets can be had on craigslist for 10-15 dollars for 20 lbs.  and this thing uses very few each time.  that little maze smokes for 7 hours if full.

Happy smoking.  I'm making homemade pastrami tomorrow. I will be sure to post up some pictures when its done.

Oh and if you like pastrami.  We are coming up on the most mastachian time to purchase pre corned beef.  just after St. Pats.

Pfft... a $200 prebuilt smoker?

I prefer the Alton Brown method at half the price or less. ;)

You still have to maintain it, but good barbecue should be a labor of love.

you probably spend more on the fuel to feed that smoker than what the pellets run.  but to each his own.  a used MES 30 can be had for 100 bucks on CL quite frequently.  If you're gonna not value time in BBQing I guess your's would come out ahead.  but amount of Q is also limited.  2x the price 3x the amount of meat.  same cost to operate.  maybe chepaer depending on pellet buying fruaglity
