I bought a Shark!
« on: April 21, 2015, 02:00:38 PM »
I bought a Shark sewing machine. A Shark is a dinky little one-speed plastic sewing machine. I bought it ages ago and it's been in a box in the garage the whole time.

Today I finally got it out and successfully used it to turn an old apron into a reusable cloth shopping bag and a partly threadbare trash-picked vintage pillowcase into two cute reusable bulk/produce bags.

I suspect there will be further fabric-based DIYing in my future. Yay for trying new things.

Awesome! You can probably do a lot with that, since you have it. I mean, my sewing machine does like 97 things but I pretty much just... you know... sew.

I haven't touched a sewing machine since I was eight years old, so anything I manage to do at all will be a success!

I hope we see another post in a few months about the Shark still going strong! I was looking into buying a sewing machine to start doing a few things around the house (we need curtains badly, we have broken vertical blinds in MULTIPLE rooms...yikes) but wasn't sure if a Shark would last. Happy to hear you've had a successful project, maybe I'll relook at that purchase in the near future!

Very cool! My brothers got me a fancy sewing machine as a wedding present and I probably put it to use about once a year nowadays. The other day I FINALLY started using some african fabrics that I picked up on one of my trips to Ghana. I made an apron! I'm thinking of sewing a pocket onto it so that I can wear it to the garden and use it for harvesting small veggies like cherry tomatoes and green beans.

Anyone else miss the fact that "Shark" was capitalized? :)

Good luck with the upholstery adventures!

Yes.  I thought this was going to be about a pet shark.  That would be bad ass.

Pet sharks needs frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
