Good morning everyone!
Today marks the 35th day in a row I have gone without A/C in my house. I don't live in the shade, so my house has been getting quite warm. But I work all afternoon - evening. I come home at night, when I can cool the house easily with open windows.
It is a very old house, and I was expecting electricity to run $200 a month just because of the inefficiency of the place. It had the cheapest rent, though, and would have wound up saving money even if it was $200.
No A/C (but using fans) brought it down to $80. The appliances in the place are energy hogs. Sadly, I do need to dry clothes in the machine because anything I have hung up has become moldy in this humidity. Still quite inefficient (this was the absolute largest my electricity was in my old apartment with roommates who whined about temps) but now I'm saving money on rent and electricity.
I enjoy very hot temperatures - that's why I moved down here. If I was home in the middle of the day, I would be worried. But it is cool enough in the evenings - why cool an empty house during the day?
